MILFORD – Camp Alexander Mack, located in Milford, is preparing to celebrate its 100th anniversary with a special Centennial Celebration on Aug. 10.
From 1 to 4 p.m., a variety of activities will be offered for anyone who has ever experienced the magic of Camp Mack. Guests are invited to record a video sharing their favorite camp memories for inclusion in the Camp Mack museum. Attendees can also create a personal page for a special 100th anniversary edition of the Waubee Waves. Classic camp games and activities such as cornhole, horseshoes and self-guided nature hikes will be available, along with traditional crafts like name tag burning and lanyard making — free of charge. The Camp Mack gift shop will be open, featuring a limited-edition 100th anniversary shirt for purchase.
Throughout the afternoon, attendees will have the opportunity to attend meetups and reconnect with friends from Camp Mack-sponsored programs and partner organizations. Scheduled meet-ups include groups such as the Indiana Deaf Camp, Waubee Lake Association, Camp Del-Ja-Ri, 4-H Camps, Camp Mack staff, participants in Camp’s homeschool program, Camp Elko, recovery groups, the American Baptist Churches of Metro Chicago, the Episcopal Diocese of Northern Indiana and Manchester University alumni.
According to Gene Hollenberg, executive director, “This will be one of those ‘once in a century’ opportunities. For those who have ever been to Camp Mack, even for one event, you’ll have the chance to bring back fond memories and discover how things have changed. If you have never been to Camp Mack, come and see the reason it has continued as a vital ministry for all this time.”
At 4 p.m., all are invited to a community campfire featuring song leaders from Camp Mack and its partner groups. The campfire will be followed by a special performance on the Camp’s historic chimes. A buffet dinner will be served from 4:30 to 6 p.m., with a free will donation accepted.
The day will conclude with a worship service at 6 p.m. in Quinter Miller Auditorium, featuring songs, reflection and dedication. The service will include sharing from Becky Ball-Miller, Galen Jay and Jessie Kreider. A popcorn reception will follow the worship service.
