Cabin Fire Started By Wood StoveLEESBURG – No injuries were reported after a fire in a cabin started due to a wood stove.

At 1:23 p.m. Thursday, Plain Township Fire Department responded to a call at a cabin, said Fire Chief Jared Haughee. The cabin did not have an address but the property that the fire department was sent to was 5255 N. CR 150, Leesburg.

Upon arrival, Haughee said there was some light smoke coming out of the upper level from the basement. All of the damage was contained to the basement and its contents.

Haughee said the occupant had started a wood stove in the basement and had the door open and some sparks flew out of the stove to start the fire. The occupant tried to put out the fire before calling the fire department.

The fire department had the fire under control within minutes of arrival. Haughee estimated the damage at a couple thousand dollars.

Lutheran EMS and Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office assisted.
