LAPEL – C. Marian Steedman, 97, of Franklin, passed away Jan. 27, 2013, in Franklin United Methodist Community. She was born June 4, 1915, in Dodge City, Kan., to the Rev. Oscar and Clara Price Matthew. In 1939, she married Garfield G. Steedman, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Larned High School, Kansas, in 1933; attended Southwestern College, Kansas, and Taylor University; received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Fort Hays State University; and earned a master’s degree in education from Ball State University. She and her husband enjoyed 64 years of wonderful marriage, living out her dream of being a pastor’s wife. Together they served United Methodist churches in Cicero, Williamsburg—Greens Fork, Kendallville, Bourbon, Lapel, Union City, Mishawaka and Cleveland Heights, Ohio. She was an elementary school teacher and taught in schools in Preston, Kan., Union City, Mishawaka and Shaker Heights, Ohio. She and her husband enjoyed retirement in North Webster, before moving to FUMC. She was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church, Franklin. She enjoyed traveling, camping, family and loads of friends. She lived a vibrant, loving, faithful and joyous life. Surviving are two sons, Donald L. Steedman, Covington, Ky., and Richard B. (and spouse Barb) Steedman, Evansville; seven grandchildren: David A. Steedman; Angela L. (and spouse Jeff) Vasser; Allison L. (and spouse Ben) Appel; Brian J. Steedman; Emily S. (and spouse Paul) Fehrenbacher; Jeffrey M. (and spouse Tara) Steedman; and Daniel A. Steedman; five great-grandchildren: Carson and Zachary Vasser; Logan and Lyla Steedman; and Kelsie Appel; a sister, Evalyn Overin; a brother, Lowell Matthew; and a daughter-in-law, Kathy Steedman. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert W. “Rob” Steedman; three brothers, Lloyd, Lynn “Bill” and Lyle Matthew; and three sisters: Susie Love, Loreen Farkas and Verlea Ray McKee. A celebration of life service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Franklin United Methodist Community, Wright Chapel, 1070 W. Jefferson St., Franklin, with the Rev. Andy Kinsey officiating. A committal service and burial will be at Brookside Cemetery, Lapel, with the Rev. Justin Fisher officiating. Calling is from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Franklin United Methodist Community.
