Buyer Beware

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:

Since Dec. 8, 2006, I have been in the process of purchasing a computer advertized on Channel 25 and our local The Paper. After sending them all necessary information, I was to receive a Gateway 2006 17-inch flat panel computer, new printer, $700 free software, free 20-inch new flat screen color TV and Web cam and printer. The activation fee was $99. Then $79.98 twice a month (26 payments) for a total of $1,770.

Well, to make a long story short, I recently found out this company has no license, and has had thousands of complaints from dissatisfied customers.

They are using the Gateway name when they are really selling HP computers worth about $500.

So far I have given them in excess of $600. After many calls to them, I keep getting the run around about delivery.

After calling the Better Business Bureau in Baltimore, Md., and Las Vegas, I was told about their unreliability.

They would only take payments directly from your checking account, which I have stopped. You can't talk to anyone in the main office in Las Vegas. No phone number available either. So I am going to newspapers, television and just spreading the word about this so-called upstanding company.

I learned a lesson of buyer beware. I should have checked with the BBB before. I guess I believed their ads.

I don't know if I will recoup my money, but I am trying, and if not, I have lost but learned. I am just a person who wanted a great deal and lost. If anyone out there has had this experience with Blue Hippo, I would love to hear from you.
