Bussard Named IBCA District 1 Player Of The Week

INDIANAPOLIS – Tippecanoe Valley senior basketball player Sophie Bussard was named the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association District 1 Player of the Week. 

Bussard had 35 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists in the Lady Vikings’ 82-51 rout at Logansport last week.

She made 14 of 21 field goals, was 5 of 7 from behind the three-point arc, and was 2 of 3 from the free throw line to boost Valley to 3-1.

Bussard is committed to Southeast Missouri State. 



Whitko Doles Out Fall Sports Awards

SOUTH WHITLEY – Whitko High School announced its fall sports awards.

In cross country, Zack Freel and Lily Spurlin were named MVPs, while Ethan Joseph and Laura Jackson won Most Improved and Jacob Porter and Amaya Norman won Mental Attitude awards.

Abby Arter was named Most Improved in girls golf, while Summer West won Mental Attitude.

In boys tennis, Jackson Hollenbaugh won Mental Attitude, Aiden Hoffman was named Most Improved and Devon Akers was tabbed MVP.

Chase Castillo was the MVP of boys soccer, while Storm Baldridge earned Most Improved and Tony Gaff won Mental Attitude.

Girls soccer had Holly Hathaway as MVP, Abigail Hartman as Most Improved, Julia Seifert as Mental Attitude and Kylie Fugett as Rising Star.

Several volleyball players earned awards. 

Kristina Slater was named MVP and had the most digs and most aces, while Eva-Marie Nadzialek won the Participation and Most Improved awards.

Katherine Ousley and Sarah Hewitt took home Mental Attitude awards, while Reese Bradford and Carissa Beck were named Most Coachable.

Beck had the most kills, while Bradford had the most assists and Jadin Parrett had the most blocks.

Dalton Ousley was the Offensive Line MVP in football, while Ethan Schuh was the Offensive Back MVP, Devin Ulshafer and Braxton Coburn shared Defensive Line MVP, Isaiah Kyles was Defensive Back MVP and Dominick Moseley won the Ryan Huff award.

Jarrett Ocken was the JV Offensive Line MVP, while Cade Berg was the JV Offensive Back MVP, and Ashton Schuh and Isaiah Pierce were JV Defensive Line MVPs. 

Whitko had several student-athletes tabbed All-Three Rivers Conference.

Daulton Webb was named to football’s All-TRC team, while Mason Lehman was tabbed with an honorable mention. 

Micah Cokl and Nate Smith were all-conference tennis players, while Chase Castillo and Jose Cordero earned honorable mentions in boys soccer and Julifa Seifert and Holly Hathaway were honorable mentions in girls soccer.



Manchester Boys, Girls Drop Meet To Kokomo

NORTH MANCHESTER – The Manchester boys and girls swimming teams began their seasons Monday with home losses to Kokomo.

Manchester’s girls (0-1) lost 114-54, while the boys (0-1) lost 114-42.

The Lady Squires won four events. The team of Halie Wampler, Cora Barnett, Halle Briner and Lillian Myers won the 200-yard medley relay in 2:09.49. 

Briner won the 200 IM in 2:16.91 and the 500 freestyle in 5:36.34, while Barnett won the 100 breaststroke in 1:18.75. 

On the boys side, Jonathan Eberly won the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.81, while Parker York won the 50 freestyle in 24.06 seconds.



Wawasee Freshmen Defeat Columbia City

COLUMBIA CITY – The Wawasee freshman boys basketball team won 35-28 Monday at Columbia City.

Keaton Dukes led the Warriors (1-0) with 11 points, while Landon Gause scored seven points.

Wawasee’s Grant Brooks and Jackson Stover had five points each, while Mason Possell chipped in three points.
