Burket Council Appoints Crystal Ellison As New Council Member

BURKET - The Burket Town Council appointed Crystal Ellison as their newest town council member during a special meeting Tuesday.
The position became vacant after Lena Ball resigned effective June 30.
Burket residents Penny Sloan, Crystal Ellison, Deana Moore and Vicki Scott registered to run for the seat. However, Sloan and Moore voluntarily withdrew from the race for personal reasons.
Though they were all invited, Ellison was the only candidate to attend the special meeting.
Town Councilwoman Debra Deniston nominated Ellison. Council President Bill Rayburn seconded, making Ellison's appointment unanimous.
Deniston said she appreciated how Ellison described wanting to make Burket "a closer community."
Ellison stated, "I'm just excited ... I've lived here since I was a kid, like six months old, and my family has always lived here. I'd like to make it how it was when I was growing up, a closer community."
