AKRON – Brook Lynn Black, 87, of Noblesville, passed surrounded by family at 12:12 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2026, at his residence.
Brook was born on May 18, 1938, in Kosciusko County and lovingly raised by his parents George and Vera Arter Black. He was raised with strong family values that stayed with him throughout his life. Brook graduated from Beaver Dam High School, where he enjoyed playing both basketball and baseball.
On June 19, 1959, he married the love of his life, Loretta Young, at the Akron Church of God. Together they built a life centered around family, hard work and shared adventures. Their marriage of more than six decades was a testament to their commitment and love.
Brook began his professional career in the funeral service industry, assisting at Haupert Funeral Home in Akron, before spending 20 years in insurance sales with First Equity Life Insurance. He later began a second career as a Realtor with Prudential. Over the years, he earned his real estate and insurance licenses, along with his pilot’s license.
He was a member of the Scottish Rite and Mizpah Shrine of Fort Wayne, as well as Masonic Lodge No. 73 in Warsaw, where he served as past master. Brook was also a member of Castleton United Methodist Church in Indianapolis.
Brook enjoyed an active and adventurous life. He loved golfing and water skiing, and in his younger days, he delighted many with his tap‑dancing talent — even performing on television, where he tap‑danced on roller skates down a set of stairs.
He and Loretta especially loved traveling and shared many memorable cruises and trips with family, including visits to Hawaii, Europe and Alaska. Brook took great pride in caring for his home and property and was known for his careful attention to detail. He cherished returning to the Warsaw area to visit the family farm, now home to the Tippecanoe Valley School campus.
Above all, Brook will be remembered as a caring and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who always checked in on the people he loved.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta Black, of Noblesville; children: Brent Black, Cheryl and husband Jack Schinderle, Vonda and husband Vincent Recinto, Rhonda and husband Donny Golden and Todd and wife Erin Black; bonus daughter, Debbie Applegate and husband Chris Denny; grandchildren: Caitlin Golubski and husband Frank, Madison Black, Brandon Black, Riley Schinderle, Rudy Schinderle and wife Yessica, Danika Golden, Dacoda Golden, Joseph Golden, Cleo Recinto, Samara Black, and Adelyn Black; and great-grandchildren: Lilah, Barrett, Eleanor, Anderson and Luna; and a sister, Susan Priest.
