A 5-year-old boy is in critical condition after a near-drowning at Pike Lake Beach Tuesday evening.
Indiana Conservation Officer Matthew Maher, DNR Division of Law Enforcement, said the boy was still being treated at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne as of Wednesday afternoon.
The boy’s name was not being released because not all of his family has been notified. Once family has been notified, Maher said another news release will be sent out with more information.
According to a news release from the DNR Wednesday morning, at approximately 7:14 p.m. Tuesday, emergency personnel responded to Pike Lake Beach in Warsaw, after a child was reported missing in the water at the swim area.
Witnesses reported the boy was swimming in the public swim area near shore when he could not be located. The boy was later found unresponsive by a family member near the public swimming pier in approximately five feet of water.
Emergency personnel from multiple departments responded to the area and provided CPR and lifesaving aid.
The boy was transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital by paramedics, and later flown by Lutheran Air to Fort Wayne, where he is undergoing treatment.
The incident is still under investigation by Indiana Conservation Officers.
Responding agencies included Warsaw Police Department, Warsaw-Wayne Fire Department, Lutheran Hospital Paramedics and Indiana Conservation Officers.
