Cory A. Black and Andrew J. Owens Jr. took their oaths of office Friday as Warsaw Police Department patrol officers.
Before Warsaw Mayor Jeff Grose administered the oath to each one of the men individually at the Board of Public Works and Safety meeting, he said, “As mayor I’m to serve this community, and what I feel about serving and protecting - countless officers that are in here - as my dad, a former police officer, once said, ‘Jeff, as mayor, take this very, very, very serious on behalf of the entire public.’”
He pointed out the two officers who were going to take their oaths of office Friday “and countless other officers in this city and county that have pledged to run to trouble - my dad speaking - run to trouble while we’re running away from it.”
Grose said it was an honor and privilege to get to give the oaths to the officers. He then had everyone involved in emergency services stand up to be recognized.
“A huge thank-you to you, not only for what you have done and what you continue to do for this community, but also here to stand up for two individuals that are going to take the same oath that you did,” he said.
WPD Chief of Police Scott Whitaker said, “On behalf of the city of Warsaw Police Department, we’re excited that we have two officers that have met the criteria and standards to receive the first class patrolman, successfully completing the probationary status as an officer of the city of Warsaw Police Department. It’s great to see their family and friends and fellow officers present for this public ceremony.”
Black took his oath first, followed by Owens.
