Editor, Times-Union: Clinton and Sanders are proud to call themselves progressives. Obama, another Progressive, said he was going to fundamentally change America. Hitler fundamentally changed Germany. That nation was in chaos. The economy was shattered by war debts and hyperinflation, millions needs jobs, the military had been dismantled and the nation needed to be rebuilt. Hitler was considered the strong leader Germany needed and fulfilled his progressive promises. Progressives support abortion. Margaret Sanger, another Progressive, wanted to help women receive abortions mainly for two reasons. She believed abortion controlled the size of families to make them more manageable and also prevented “undesirables” from reproducing. Hitler admired Sanger because he also wanted to control the number of “undesirables” that were allowed to live. Progressives believe that the government should be more powerful and able to do things for the good of more people. Hitler also believed in a powerful government that could do good for more people. Unfortunately, too many of the people that were in the government were evil. Today, the more powerful a government becomes, the more oppressive it can become. Progressives like to control the language and thoughts of people. Hitler had the Ministry of Propaganda to do that. Progressives like to have the press supporting them. So did Hitler. Progressives devote much of their efforts to control the education systems to teach students what they think they need to know. Hitler was the same way. You could say Stalin was a Progressive too. He believed in modernizing the Soviet Union through massive industrialization to bring progress. He foolishly had seen grain sold to buy industrial equipment which contributed to the starvation of over two million. Then again, Progressives often support actions and programs that do more harm than good despite their good intentions. Being a Progressive is nothing to brag about. As I’ve written earlier, often they oppose real progress. The real tragedy is that too many people support Progressives without considering the consequences. Rick Badman Warsaw
