AKRON – Betty L. Miller, 79, of 8921 Fort Wayne Road, Akron, died at 6 p.m. Aug. 18, 2013, at Woodlawn Hospital of Rochester.
She was born Sept. 18, 1933, in Kosciusko County, to O.C. and Dora Craft Howard. On Oct. 19, 1950, in Rochester, she married Dale L. “Butch” Miller, who died Nov. 22, 2006.
She was a homemaker, and a teacher at the Akron United Methodist Church Preschool. She also volunteered with the Akron Head Start. She attended Rochester High School.
She was a member of the Athens United Methodist Church where she was in charge of the nursery for many years. She loved working with, and caring, for children. She was an amazing seamstress as well as a farmer’s wife who could handle most any chore.
Surviving are three daughters: Brenda G. Miller, and Lori M. (and spouse Steven) Stiffler, all of Akron, and Sherri L. (and spouse Jeff) Secrist), Rochester; a son, Brandon H. (and spouse Deb) Miller, Akron; nine grandchildren: Scott, Ryan (and spouse Kayla), Kevan and Kyle Secrist; Jenny, Jessica and Jaclyn Stiffler; and Allison and Greg Miller; two sisters, Thelma (and spouse James) Rudd and Eileen (and spouse John) Davis, all of Rochester; three brothers: Carl Howard, Macy; Paul (and spouse Phyllis) Howard and Harold Howard, all of Rochester. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Finettie Rudd, and a brother, Junior Bailey.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with the Rev. Michael McFarland officiating. Burial will be at Athens Cemetery.
Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
