AKRON - Betty L. Benzing, 85, of 337 Grace Village Drive, Winona Lake, and formerly of the Gilead area, died at 10:44 p.m. Nov. 28, 2009, in Grace Village Healthcare, Winona Lake.
She was born Sept. 9, 1924, in Butler County, Hamilton, Ohio, to Orville John and Sarah Elizabeth Lunsford Agnew. On July 3, 1942, in Celina, Ohio, she married Walter Charles Benzing Sr., who died July 4, 1989.
She was a homemaker, and worked at JC Penney, Warsaw; was an aid at the North Miami Elementary School; and worked at Kendall's Grocery, Akron. She was a member of Olive Branch Church of God, Roann, and a former member and past matron of the Order of the Eastern Stars Gilead Chapter.
Surviving are two daughters, Ada (and spouse Peter) Gross, Warsaw, and Marcinda "Cindy" (and spouse Nels) Oneal, West Lafayette; four sons: Timothy (and spouse Rachel) Gamble, Columbia, S.C.; Wally Benzing, Janesville, Wis.; Robert (and spouse Marie) Benzing, Akron; and William (and spouse Trisha) Benzing, Columbia City; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Norm (and spouse Wendy) Benzing, Warsaw. She was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastor Lowell Burrus officiating. Burial will be in Gilead Cemetery.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
