Betty Jane Fitton, 89, Warsaw, passed away at 11:30 p.m. Jan. 3, 2014, in Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne. She was born March 8, 1924, in Syracuse, to John Floyd and Carrie Carene Smith Gordy. On Oct. 26, 1946, in Syracuse, she married Robert Lee Fitton, who preceded her in death July 13, 2010. She was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County where she was a 1942 graduate of Syracuse High School. She worked for Penn Electric in Fort Wayne until returning to Syracuse where she worked as a telephone operator. After moving to Warsaw, she worked at Kimble Glass, Little Crow Foods and Zimmer Inc. She loved to cook, needlepoint, knit, read and go shopping. From 1978 until 2012 she spent the winter seasons in Phoenix, Ariz. She will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Jane Volker, Phoenix, and Lee Ann (and spouse Keith) Lafountain, Warsaw; two grandchildren, Jill Volker, Phoenix, and Nathan Lafountain, Warsaw; a great-granddaughter, Kaedence Zellmer, Warsaw; and her sister, Helen Jones, Mishawaka. Also preceding her in death were her parents; a son, Jerry, who died in 1947; her brother, John; and her sister, Martha. Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, with Pastor Gary Boschain officiating.
