Be Nice

Editor, Times-Union:

Yes, Harold, many communication problems do precipitate through a lack of misunderstanding. But that doesn't give Sara the right to be pointing fingers at Harold, and insinuating that he is being sarcastic. It is very rude to be making blunt contradictions toward other people.

We should be very civilized toward other people without resorting to accusatory speech. And we don't have any right at all to point fingers at other people either. We should respect other people's personal opinions regardless of whether they are right or wrong. Everyone is entitled to their opinions regardless of whether they are good, bad or indifferent.

There is such a thing in this country called giving the other person the benefit of the doubt. We should see that we start using it. To avoid rash judgment, everyone should be care to interpret insofar as possible his neighbors' thoughts, words and deeds in favorable way.

Every good Christian ought to be more ready to a favorable interpretation to another's statement than to condemn it. But if he cannot do so, let him ask how the other understands it. And if the latter understands it badly, let the former correct him with love. If that does not suffice, let the Christian try all suitable ways to bring the other to a correct interpretation so that he may be saved. We should not make any disparaging remarks toward other people's personal opinions in any way, shape or form.
