Barry Delbert Black, 66, of 5178 Dovewood Trail, Warsaw, died at 6:20 a.m. April 16, 2007, at Goshen General Hospital.

He was born Oct. 3, 1940, in Ligonier, to Lewis Delbert and Beatrice Rice Black. On April 4, 1981, he married Sandra May Yoder, who survives.

He received his education at Ligonier and upon graduation in 1958, he joined the Indiana State Police as a civilian. In 1962, he became an Indiana state trooper, serving in Northern Indiana until 1991. From 1963 until his honorable discharge in 1965, he served in the U.S. Army at Fort Myer, Arlington, Va. After his state trooper service, he worked as a corporate pilot for Biomet, Warsaw, until his retirement in 1999. He was a member of the Retired Troopers Association of Indiana and the Retired National Troopers Association of Indiana.

Also surviving are a son, Sean (and wife Sonya) Black, Carmel; two granddaughters, Lindsey and Adrianne Black, both of Carmel; and a brother, Barton (and wife Dian) Black, Syracuse. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Winona Lake Free Methodist Church with Pastor Dr. Don Riggs officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Calling is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Arrangements are in the care of Earl-Grossman Funeral Home, Argos. Ron Redpath and John Fruth are the funeral directors.
