MENTONE – Barbara “Jodie” Cook Atkinson, 83, Indianapolis, and formerly of Mentone, where she and her husband Dr. David Cook practiced and lived from 1975 to 1984, passed away at 3:03 p.m. Sept. 1, 2015, at Community East Hospital, Indianapolis.
She was born Nov. 6, 1931, in Indianapolis, to Leo and Esther Brummet Miller. On Jan. 31, 1953, in Indianapolis, she married Dr. David L. Cook, who preceded her in death July 27, 1995. On Feb. 14, 1997, she married Raymond Atkinson, who also preceded her in death in 1999.
She was a dental assistant and was the treasurer of the Fourth Church of Christ, Scientist of Indianapolis. She was a graduate of Howe High School in 1949. She was a member of the Fourth Church of Christ, Scientist of Indianapolis.
Survivors are: two daughters, April (and spouse Terry) Menzie and Laura (and spouse Timothy) England, all of Mentone; four sons: James David Cook, Newcastle; Dana C. Cook, Indianapolis; David L. (and spouse Rhonda) Cook II, Ossian; and Christopher (and spouse Jennifer) Cook, New Palestine; seven grandchildren, Ryan, Lyndsey, Holly, Kelly, Andrew, Kayla and Austin; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Melville Miller. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Brian M. Cook; a granddaughter, Marley Garrett Cook; two sisters and a brother.
A private family service will be at a later date at the Mentone Cemetery.
King Memorial Home, Mentone, is entrusted with arrangements.
