Barbara Eileen AndersonBarbara Eileen Anderson, of Grace Village Retirement Community in Winona Lake, passed away at 6:20 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023, at Grace Village Health Care at the age of 90.
She was born on a farm in Whitley County, on March 28, 1932, to Nellie Marie Redman Schoenauer and Daniel Edward Schoenauer. Barbara graduated from Roanoke High School in 1950 and attended Manchester College. She was married to Rev. Emmett L. Anderson on June 8, 1952. They were blessed with 62 years of marriage before Emmett passed away on Nov. 13, 2014.
Barbara focused on being a full-time homemaker and assisting her husband as a pastor’s wife. She was very hospitable, opening her home and preparing meals for family, friends and people attending the different churches where here husband pastored. Barbara served as a pastor’s wife throughout Indiana: Erie, Collins, Decatur, Urbana, Fort Wayne, Kokomo, Avila, Alexandria, Hobart and Logansport. She found ways to help out these communities by serving and donating to organizations that supported these people. Barbara had a heart for serving and enjoyed the fellowship of her church family at First United Methodist Church of Warsaw where she was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend who will be dearly missed by all.
She leaves behind her daughter, Edith (Chan) Wong, San Jose, Calif.; son, Emmett Jr. (Cindy) Anderson, Beaver Falls, Pa.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and her brother, DeWayne Schoenauer, Payne, Ohio. A special thanks to Barbara’s niece, Beth Hauenstein, for her kindness in assisting the family throughout her aunt’s declining years. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Elwood Schoenauer; and his sister, Dorotha Hauenstein.
Barbara’s life will be celebrated with a graveside service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18 and officiated by Rev. Brian Smith. She will be laid to rest alongside her husband at South Whitley Cemetery in South Whitley. Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.
