Baker Youth Club Hands Out Annual AwardsThe boy and girl of the year at the Baker Youth Center for 2017-18 are Charlie Sexton and Angelica Garcia Ponce, respectively.

The top awards are based on the organization’s six pillars of character, including trustworthy, respectful, responsible, citizenship, caring and fairness. The awards were presented Thursday evening as part of the annual awards celebration.

Runners-up were Kellen Heuber and Izabella Woodruff.





BYC Executive Director Tracy Furnivall said the focus of the annual awards celebration is the kids. It recognizes over 50 of its 500 members.

A boy of the month and a girl of the month are picked for every month from August to May.

The boy of the month recipients for 2017-18 were Noah Landis, August; Joshua Pratt, September; Jitheash Sivakumar, October; Layne Blocher, November; Blaine Jenkins, December; Zackary Renecker, January; Alex Herrera, February; Charlie Sexton, March; Ryan Carnes, April; and Nash Wiggins, May.

The girl of the month recipients were Dakota Betts, August; Staci Slagal, September; Haylie Fletcher, October; Shelby Harlan, November; Brynndelyn Woods, December; Gretchen Robinson, January; Chloe Stewert, February; Ava Dimmit, March; Emma Moss, April; and Lillith Walker, May.

There are six character awards: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. Each of the awards is presented to a boy and girl in kindergarten to fourth grade and fifth grade and up.

The kindergarten to fourth-grade award recipients were, trustworthiness: Makayle Cassidy and Natalee Stetzel; respect: Anthony Salas and Sadie Brown; responsibility: Reed Carnes and Kasiahh Chupp; fairness: Keagen Patrick and Sophia Griffith; caring: Joaquin Ridley and Remingtyn Oberg; and citizenship: Roosevelt Hoffert and Diya Patel.

The fifth-grade and up award recipients were, trustworthiness: Shannon Ridley and Mia Blocher; respect: Hayden Xique and Lacie Walden; responsibility: Robinson Hoffert and Abby Parcels; fairness: Ulises Herrera and Daihya Chupp; caring: Ethan Wetzel and Audrina Jones; and citizenship: Cameron Fox and Aislyn Elliott.

Before the student awards, Furnivall recognized volunteers Courtney Coles, Tommy Breeding, Katie Richards, Noah Marshall and Ronnie Shoemaker.

Staff recognized were Ashley Maust, Brooke Miller, Caleb Clower, Caleb Rovenstine, Coyle Kreft, David Goon, Gail Rodriguez, Haylie Lackey, Josh Engle, Keagan Rice, Kelly Furnivall, Mark Tracy, Robert Lee, Sadie Halpin, Tanya Kempton, Tecy Banta, Thomas Pennington, Tony Pickett, Trae Furnivall and Whitney Ousley.
