Bad Newspaper

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:

First of all, I would like to thank all of the voters in the 3rd District of the city of Warsaw who supported my re-election. I would also like to again compliment my opponent, Jim Breading, for running a clean but aggressive campaign.

However, my gratitude and compliments do not extend to the Times-Union. It was strange and irresponsible for the local newspaper to announce, by name, that our mayor, police chief and two city councilmen were on vacation on election day, therefore making it known that our homes were empty and vulnerable to being plundered. It was misrepresentative to say that the statements were given prior to the election without having mentioned that concession statements were given at the same time. The wording made it sound as if we were confident, if not arrogant.

It is worth noting, as well, that this trip was planned approximately 18 months ago in honor of the police chief and his wife's 31st wedding anniversary. Many of us who went on the trip voted prior to leaving and by no means felt confident of what the election results would be.
