NORTH MANCHESTER – Avon McKee, 74, of North Manchester and Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw, since August 2011, died at 5:19 a.m. Jan. 25, 2012, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
She was born Jan. 2, 1938, in Greeley, Colo., to William Alonzo and Hazel Marie Hammonds McFarland. On July 28, 1957, she married Thomas N. McKee, who survives.
After high school graduation and marriage, she was a switchboard operator for General Telephone and later was an assistant activity director, nursing assistant and QMA at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester. After her retirement from Peabody, she babysat in her home. She graduated from Central High School, North Manchester, in 1956. She was a member of of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Manchester, where she taught Sunday school.
Surviving are three daughters: Serita (and spouse Dean) Mithoefer, Indianapolis; Joy (and spouse Bradford) Wagner, Columbia City; and Ginger McKee, North Manchester; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, a half sister and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, with Pastor Ladona Webb officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.
