Area Roundup: Sanner Leads Lady Tigers Past Concord

DUNLAP – Led by freshman Abby Sanner, Warsaw’s varsity girls basketball team kept its winning streak against Northern?Lakes Conference rival Concord alive.

In a game that was originally schedule for tonight but moved up 24 hours because of the weather forecast, Sanner scored 21 points and pulled down eight rebounds as the Lady Tigers pulled out a 49-47 win over Concord in overtime.

The Lady Tigers, now 13-7 overall and 4-1 in NLC?play, have won 43 consecutive games against Concord and lead the overall series 51-2.

Concord’s only wins against Warsaw were in 1981 and 1983, both in McCuen Gymnasium.

In Friday’s game, Warsaw trailed 8-6 after one quarter of play, but led 24-22 at halftime.

Concord led 39-35 heading into the fourth quarter, and the teams were knotted at 45 at the end of regulation.

Along with Sanner’s 21 points, Warsaw got 15 points off the bench from senior Halle Shipp, all from three-point range, and 10 points, six rebounds and four assists from senior Maddie Ryman.

Sophomore Kensie Ryman dished out eight assists and pulled down four boards in the win.

Sydney Simon led Concord (12-8, 2-4 NLC) with 13 points and eight rebounds, Kendal Swartout tallied 12 points and 10 boards, and Chandyn Redmond finished with 11 points.

In the JV?game, Warsaw cruised to a 46-14 win.

Mackenzie Sokol led the Lady Tigers with 10 points, and Bailie Stephens and Cora West scored eight points each.

Warsaw is in action again Tuesday in a makeup game against Goshen. It is the Lady Tigers’ last home game, as well as senior night.



Knights Edge Valley Vikings In OT

AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley had five players score in double figures Friday night, but the Vikings fell 83-82 to Southwood in overtime of a Three Rivers Conference boys basketball game.

Parkur Dalrymple led the Vikings with 21 points, while Tanner Trippiedi finished with 17 points, eight rebounds and three assists, Jace Potter tallied 13 points and five boards, Jalen Shepherd chipped in with 12 points and nine rebounds, and Cameron Parker contributed 11 points and five rebounds.

Dallas Holmes paced the Knights with 27 points and 11 boards.

Carson Rich and Jackson Simon scored 19 points each for Southwood, and Braden Barney finished with 10 points in the win.

The teams were tied at 14 after one quarter of play, and Southwood led 36-32 at halftime.

Valley took the third quarter 21-10, but Southwood won the fourth quarter 23-16 to force overtime.

Southwood improved to 4-9 overall and 2-3 in the TRC, while Valley is now 7-7 and 4-1 in the league standings.

The Vikings travel to conference rival Manchester Friday.



Triton Falls To County Rival Bremen

BOURBON – Triton’s Tye Orsund won the battle, but the Bremen Lions won the wars Friday night.

In a boys basketball clash of Marshall County rivals, Orsund was 7 of 10 form the field en route to a game-high 18 points, but the Lions beat Triton 40-38 at the Trojan Trench.

Beau Hepler scored six points for Triton, and Keegan Westafer and Jared Bules chipped in with five points each.

Ryan Caldwell led Bremen with 11 points, Brookes Feldman scored eight points, Justin Zumbrun seven and Bryce Ginter and Trevor Devine netted six points each.

Triton, now 5-7 after losing for the fifth time in six games, travels to Elkhart Christian Tuesday.



FTs Help Plymouth Get Past Wawasee

SYRACUSE – Plymouth outscored Wawasee 19-5 at the free throw line and extended its win streak to seven with a 56-47 boys basketball victory Friday night at the Hardwood Teepee.

Plymouth finished the game 19 of 22 at the charity stripe, while Wawasee was 5 of 11.

Plymouth, now 12-3 overall and 4-0 in Northern Lakes Conference play, led 14-6 after one quarter of play, 29-20 at halftime and 41-35 heading into the final frame.

Clay Hilliard scored a game-high 21 points for Plymouth, and teammates Cole Filson and Jake Reichard finished with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Bennett Hoffert led Wawasee with 16 points, while Kameron Salazar chipped in with nine and Austin Miller eight.

The Warriors won the JV?game 39-34.

Wawasee, 3-10 overall and 0-4 in the NLC, travels to Bethany Christian Tuesday.



Hamby, Casper Lead Squires Past Zebras

NORTH MANCHESTER – Sophomore Weston Hamby and senior Brayden Casper scored all but eight of Manchester’s points Friday night, as the Squires edged Three Rivers Conference rival Rochester 35-34 in boys hoops action.

Hamby led the Squires with 14 points, six rebounds and two assists, and Casper finished with 13 points and four boards.

The rest of Manchester’s scoring came from Thane Creager (4), Max Carter (2) and Austin Underwood (2).

The Squires are now 7-6 overall and 3-1 in the TRC standings. Rochester fell to 5-8 and 1-3.

Manchester travels to Bellmont Tuesday.

In Friday’s JV contest, Manchester beat Rochester 49-45.

Carter Bedke led the way with 16 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Ridge Fierstos tallied 12 points and seven assists in the JV team’s win.



LCA Cougars Fall At Clinton Christian

GOSHEN – Jake Harmon and Landon Twombly scored 11 points each, but Lakeland Christian Academy’s boys basketball team fell 61-37 at Clinton Christian Friday night.

Braxton Keller, Cameron Shepherd and Trenton Parker scored four points each for the Cougars, and Landon Paris netted three.

Harmon pulled down eight rebounds in the loss, while Keller grabbed six boards.

Seth Shetlar led the Couriers with 18 points, Alan Snyder scored 12 points and CJ Mathis chipped in with 11.

Clinton Christian improved to 10-4 and extended its win streak to six.

LCA fell to 5-11.

The Cougars are in action again Jan. 31 at Lakewood Park.



Bazzoni, Fierstos Lead Lady Squires To Win

NORTH MANCHESTER – Eva Bazzoni and Kennedy Fierstos tallied 13 points and five rebounds each, and Manchester’s varsity girls basketball team beat Three Rivers Conference rival Rochester 39-28 Friday night.

Kiera Hatfield added eight points and six steals for the Lady Squires, who improved to 13-7 overall and 8-1 in the TRC.

Manchester led 13-6 after one quarter of play, 16-12 at halftime and 29-26 heading into the final frame.

The Lady Squires won the JV game 40-21, as Emma Garriott and Keilan  Craeger scored nine and eight points, respectively.

Manchester is in action again Tuesday in a home game with Bluffton.
