PLYMOUTH - Anna Lehocky, 89, of 16476 W. 12 B Road, Plymouth, passed away at 8:50 a.m. May 20, 2009, at Grace Village Healthcare Center, Winona Lake, Ind.

She was born March 11, 1920, in Czechoslovakia, to Aloys and Maria Dugat Laurinc. On Nov. 23, 1940, in Gary, she married Steve F. Lehocky, who died Jan. 12, 1989.

She came to the United States when she was 16 years old and was a resident of Plymouth since 1977, moving from Gary. She was a homemaker and belonged to the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association and the Zenska Jednota Organization. She was a member of Saint Michael Catholic Church, where she helped with meals for the church, and also helped with the Swiss Steak Dinner Fund Raiser. She helped at the Pilot News by stuffing inserts into the newspapers, another way that provided funds for the church.

She always had a large garden and wanted to share the produce with everyone she could.

Surviving are a daughter, Karen (and spouse Mark) Schneider, Warsaw; a son, Lawrence (and spouse Rita) Lehocky, Broomfield, Colo.; a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Lehocky, Portage; nine grandchildren, including Kyle, Craig and Alyssa, all of Warsaw; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Steve Lehocky, and a daughter, Helen Minnich.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Saint Michael Catholic Church with the Rev. Father William Kummer officiating. Burial will be in Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville.

Calling is from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth, with a rosary service at 6:30 p.m.
