AKRON - Amber A. Black, 54, of 11587 W. CR 950S, Akron, died at 1:33 p.m. Oct. 26, 2010, in Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester, after a battle with cancer.

He was born March 13, 1956, in Rochester, to Gene A. and Margaret V. "Maggie" Hodges Black, who survive in Akron.

He was an independent over-the- road truck driver for many years and most recently for Perkins Trucking Inc., Noblesville. Prior to that he worked for Akron Concrete Products. He also lived for a few years in Texas as well as California. He was a 1974 graduate of Akron High School. Soon after graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Marines where he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters. He liked to spend time on his tractor mowing. He enjoyed playing Shanghai, Oh Heck and Uno card games. He was a member of Eagles Lodge, Rochester, as well as the National Rifle Association.

Also surviving are two daughters, Laurie (and spouse Shannon) Grube, Akron, and Lynn Black, Fresno, Calif.; three grandchildren, Ashlyn, Taylor and Tyler; two sisters, Amy Black, Des Moines, Iowa, and Arissa (and spouse Dan "Jake") Grossman, Akron; and two brothers, Allen (and spouse Janet) Black, Akron, and Henry "Hank" (and spouse Susan) Black, Warsaw. He was preceded in death by a sister, Althea Black.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastor Terry Canfield officiating and with military rites by members of American Legion Post 36 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1343, both in Rochester. Burial will be in Nichols Cemetery, Akron.

Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
