Amateur Photo Contest Part Of June’s Virtual First FridayThe June 5 First Friday will be the second virtual one for Warsaw this year.

It’s being held from 5 to 9 p.m. on the First Friday Warsaw Facebook page, with judging of an amateur photo contest and a live online performance.

According to information provided by Trisha Steger, Warsaw Community Development Corporation Main Street coordinator, event highlights include:

• The continuation of the WCDC’s Downtown Warsaw Gift Card Fundraiser, which will run indefinitely.

The $25 gift cards to participating downtown Warsaw merchants and restaurants are available for purchase at www.WarsawCDC.org, with 100% of sales going to participating merchants. Gift cards may be redeemed in-store and/or online at participating businesses where available.

Merchants will contact their customers to arrange for pick-up/delivery of purchased gift cards. This fundraiser is intended to help downtown Warsaw small businesses through the COVID-19 crisis and reopening stages.  

• A countywide amateur photo contest. Nonprofessional photographers, ages 18 and older, may post their best photo of Kosciusko County (any subject matter) to their own Facebook page and tag @First Friday Warsaw for a chance to win one of three photo sessions with Bob List Photography, Courtney Freeman Photography or Cox Studio valued at $150.

A People’s Choice Award valued at $100 also will be awarded to the photo/contributor with the most Facebook “likes.”

The community is encouraged to visit the First Friday Warsaw Facebook page to like their favorite photos as a means to cast their votes.

All photo entries must be posted/tagged @ First Friday Warsaw between now until 5 p.m. June 5.

Bob List, Courtney Freeman and Mike Klondaris will serve as judges for the Professional’s Choice Award. Professionals Choice and People’s Choice winning entries will be announced June 9.

• From 7 to 8 p.m. June 5, a live online performance by Warsaw’s Columbia Street Jazz Quartet will be featured on First Friday Warsaw’s Facebook page. The jazz quartet consists of Warsaw natives Ben Essick, Wally Brath, Graydon Brath and Jack Kinney.

The theme of the July (3) First Friday is “Saluting Our Hometown Heroes” and is being organized by the Kosciusko Honor & Remember Committee, First Friday, city of Warsaw and the Warsaw Community Development Corp.

Any Kosciusko County veteran who previously was not recognized and honorably served from May 8, 1975, to present will be recognized at the July 3 First Friday event.

While First Friday event starts at 5 p.m., the honoring of the veterans will begin at 7 p.m. at Fribley Field, East Market Street, Warsaw.

Friends and family members are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs.

The registration form for veterans to be honored is available through the Facebook page of Kosciusko Honor & Remember or at Latte Lounge and Salvation Army. Forms can be dropped off at the locations or mailed to Kosciusko Honor & Remember c/o GWMA, P.O. Box 1797, Warsaw, IN 46581-1797.
