Alzheimer’s Home Therapy Offers Individualized CareKosciusko Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting Monday for Alzheimer’s Home Therapy.

Wende Roberts - licensee in Kosciusko, Elkhart, Marshall, Fulton, Whitley, Noble and Huntington counties - said Alzheimer’s Home Therapy takes a holistic approach to not only Alzheimer’s but also Dementia and other memory-related issues.

Alzheimer’s Home Therapy can either go into facilities that will their care, go into people’s homes or bring a client to them.

Roberts was in a caregiver position as her father had Parkinson’s and her mother later had Alzheimer’s. She has been with Alzheimer’s Home Therapy, a national chain, since March.

An assessment is done first to get to know the family or whoever is assisting the patient. After the assessment, sensory therapy and exercises are done, she said. She said it’s almost like tutoring for someone with Alzheimer’s. The program is individualized for the client as there are over 400 types of Dementia, she said.

A typical appointment with a client is about an hour and “it would be finding out from them or the family how they’re doing, again making those connections that’s my goal. And then having goals that’s obtainable for them and adjusting as necessary depending on their condition,” she said.

They are also working on providing senior day services programs. Roberts said she knows it’s much needed. In certain circumstances, the client may not need facility care, but their caregivers have to go to work, so the day programs allow the client to be looked after during that time.

She hopes to come along people and offer families encouragement and services that will help their loved ones.

Alzheimer’s Home Therapy can be contacted by calling 574-457-6875. A doctor’s referral is not required and a family can contact Alzheimer’s Home Therapy directly.
