The first meeting of Altrusa’s fiscal year was held June 18 at Papa Vino’s Italian Restaurant.
President Mary Garrett presided over the meeting with 24 members in attendance, according to a provided release.
Ruth Skeel (sponsored by Carol Volkers) and Dawn Gabrich (sponsored by Sarah Marsh) were welcomed as new members. Julie Hall conducted the initiation ceremony reflecting on the Altrusa logo and the meaning of each colored ribbon.
Vicki Martin, treasurer, read and reviewed the 2025-26 year-end report. During the fiscal year of June 1, 2025, to May 31, 2026, the club had donated nearly $8,000 to various community organizations. That amount did not reflect the over $14,000 raised for the Beaman Home through Bingo for Beaman held annually in October.
In addition to monetary donations, members contributed over 2,150 volunteer hours of hands-on service to organizations such as Operation Read, Tools for School, Lincoln School Adopt a Class, Mobile Meal Delivery, Warsaw Early Head Start and Baker’s Youth Club.
Carol Vierling shared information regarding this year’s Tools for Schools that will be held at Lakeview Middle School on July 29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Several members signed up to volunteer.
The June raffle gift was provided by Cathy Cox and won by Paula Shalley.
A highlight of beginning a new year is the selection of a Secret Sister. Secret Sisters participation is optional, but is a fun way to get to know your fellow Altrusan. Those choosing to participate provide information regarding birthdate, anniversary, hobbies and favorite shopping places, favorite food and restaurants. The information forms are placed in a basket to be randomly selected by members.
Altrusa – Warsaw welcomes new members anytime. Visitors are welcome to join them on July 16 at Papa Vino’s at 5:30 p.m.
