INDIANAPOLIS – Alma C. Vehling, 94, formerly of Indianapolis and Warsaw, passed away Sept. 15, 2011, in Sarasota, Fla., where she lived for the past nine years.
She married Ernest Vehling, who preceded her in death.
She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, Sarasota, and a life member of Friedens United Church of Christ, Indianapolis. She assisted her husband in the early years with his greenhouse business. She was the executive secretary at the YWCA in Indianapolis for many years. Her volunteer work was as past president of the Sahara Grotto Greeters Auxiliary, the German American Club, Warsaw Memorial Hospital, along with many church activities in later years. Her family was most important to her and she was equally as important to them. They shall miss her sharp wit, independent nature, intelligence and integrity. She was an example for us all. She will always be missed.
Surviving are two daughters, Judith V. Cuppy, Sarasota, and Gloria A. Scott, Indianapolis; four granddaughters; a grandson; and seven great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Kesten.
Services were at 1 p.m. today at G.H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home, 5141 Madison Ave., Indianapolis. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
