Staff Report-
An Akron woman has filed for the vacancy on the Franklin Township Advisory Board.
Kayla Leininger is the first person to file for the seat, according to Kosciusko County Republican Central Committee Chair Mike Ragan.
The empty seat is due to the death of Buni R. Leininger. The two women are related.
The Republican caucus will convene in the Mentone Town Hall at 6 p.m. Tuesday to choose Buni Leininger’s replacement.
The caucus is for all eligible precinct committeemen. Eligible members of the caucus, by statutory definition, are the Republican precinct committeemen of Franklin Township, Kosciusko County, who have served continuously from 30 days before the date of the commencement of the caucus, according to Ragan.
Members of the caucus, candidates, candidates families, designated caucus staff, Republican Party officials, duly appointed watchers and members of the news media shall be eligible to attend the caucus.
A Franklin Township Advisory Board member will be elected by secret ballot of the majority of members of the voting caucus to fill the vacancy in the office.
Declarations of candidacy are available at the office of Kosciusko County Clerk of the Circuit Court, 121 N. Lake St., Warsaw, and must be filed with Ragan no later than 72 hours before the commencement of the caucus.
Eligible candidates will be allowed a maximum of three minutes to address the voting caucus.
Ragan’s telephone number is 574-265-1430 and his email is mragan@sprintmail.com.
