An Akron man was arrested Sunday for impersonating a Claypool police officer.

Dustin Alan Brubaker, 32, of 7078 N. Ind. 14, Akron, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 5:52 p.m. Sunday and faces a Class A misdemeanor charge for impersonation of a public servant.

According to the police report filed Aug. 21 in Kosciusko Superior Court II, on June 18, Claypool Town Marshal Ben Sanders was advised that a man in Claypool had received a voicemail on the night of June 15 stating that an “Officer Brockenstine”?was calling and wanted to get information about a criminal mischief incident at West Section Street where several tires were slashed on the man’s vehicle.

The man who received the voicemail told police that the man in the voicemail sounded like Brubaker, who was dating the man’s soon-to-be ex-wife.

Police subpoenaed cellphone records of the voicemail, and then contacted Brubaker to come down to the station and talk about it. When Brubaker spoke with police, according to the affidavit, he admitted he said he was a police officer but insisted it was only so the man would call the ex-wife to discuss their shared children. Brubaker insisted he had nothing to do with the man’s slashed tires.

Brubaker’s bond was set at $500.
