Akron Library Touts Pre-K Reading Program

Posted
AKRON – Akron Carnegie Public Library announced a new program at the library:1000 Books Before Kindergarten.

The program promotes reading to newborns, infants and toddlers while encouraging parent and child bonding through reading.  The “1000 Books Before Kindergarten” challenge is a simple and manageable endeavor; read a book, any book to your child, with the goal of reading 1,000 before kindergarten. If you read just one book a night, you will have read 365 books in a year.  That is 730 books in two years and 1,095 books in three years.

Did you know that reading to your child is one of the most powerful ways to boost his or her brain power?  The act of sharing books helps your child learn pre-reading skills such as understanding the sounds letters make, develop a bigger vocabulary and building background knowledge.

Must be a library cardholder to participate. Stop by the library to pick up your free introduction packet today.
