In regards to the recent proposal to vacate a portion of CR 100E for the extension of a runway for the Warsaw Municipal Airport. (Times Union 11/2). Has any consideration been given to the amount of growth in housing taking place that is directly attached to this road?
How about the strategic placement of Menards, Martin's and Culver's as well as a connected short cut to Walmart and Lowes for anyone traveling towards Warsaw from the northeast part of the county. How about the diverting of school buses and emergency services over to Ind. 15 just to get around it, increasing response time and putting our children at even greater risk.
Obviously, the arguments being made for doing this do not have the general public's best interest at heart. Population and development has grown in leaps and bounds on the northeastern quadrant of the county and our community needs additional methods to travel north from Warsaw not less. East of Ind. 15 there is no other way except to wind through out the country on a mire of roads with 90 degree turns that lie between 100E and Chapman lake.
Has the Airport made it clear why there is a need for an extended runway? Does Warsaw Municipal Airport have plans to become a commercial hub? What are the other ramifications of this to local homeowners? I don't see where these needs would outweigh the danger and frustration this will cause to the large number of people who presently use this road as a way to get in and out of town.
This smells more like someone wanting to cash in on a huge real estate deal.
