WABASH – Agnes Bernadette “Bernie” Schultz, 88, of Wabash, and formerly of Dewart Lake, died at 8:10 p.m. March 10, 2012, in Miller’s Merry Manor East, Wabash.

She was born Jan. 6, 1924, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to John Robert and Anna Marie Henderson Waugh. On Jan. 13, 1944, in Brooklyn, she married John “J.P.” Schultz, who died Nov. 20, 2012.

She was an air raid warden for the Civil Defense in Brooklyn during World War II. She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Women’s Clubhouse, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Women of the Moose, all in Wabash; and the American Legion Auxiliary, Lagro. She was a life member and past president of Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and also a member of the National Flea Market Association.

Surviving are three children: Christine “Tina” Sult (and Jerry Hinesley) Leesburg; Anne (and spouse Jim) Wallen, Roann; and John “Rick” (and spouse Toni) Schultz, Pacifica, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Thomas E. (and spouse Marie) Waugh, Englewood, Fla.; and three sisters: Alice Sherwood, Cliffside Park, N.J.; Mary Ellen Wescott, Bloomingdale, N.J.; and Agnes “Cookie” Waugh, Sparkill, N.Y. She was preceded in death by a great-grandson, four brothers and two sisters.

Services were Friday at St. Bernard Catholic Church, Wabash, with Father Sextus Don officiating. Burial was in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Urbana.

Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Wabash, was in charge of arrangements.
