A Leesburg man ended up in Parkview Hospital in Warsaw with a hand injury after his loaded gun went off while he was cleaning it.
According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department investigation report, at about 9:41 p.m. Thursday the Central Dispatch received a call from the hospital in reference to a person who had accidentally shot himself in the hand while cleaning a handgun.
Tylor Michael Hall, 23, of 204 W. Church St., Leesburg, said he was in his garage and disassembling his 9mm Canik handgun to clean it when the firearm discharged accidentally, striking him in his left hand.
He told the investigating officer that he removed the magazine from the handgun that was loaded with 9mm Wadcutter hollow point bullets and began to remove the slide from the gun when it discharged.
The entrance wound was on the palm and the exit wound was on the back of his hand near the base, according to the report.
