Editor, Times-Union: On my way to Fort Wayne tonight (Thursday, March 15) I noticed a full-size pickup truck changing lanes, trying very hard to get around traffic on U.S. 30 around 6:50 p.m.
I was driving the speed limit of 60 mph. As the truck passed me I noticed it was the Emergency Management truck from Kosciusko County and Mr. Edward Rock was driving, he went around me with very little effort. My first thought was we must have an emergency in the county, why else would he be driving so fast in a county truck wasting gas that you and I paid for, so I followed him to see what had happen.
I followed him to Pierceton, he pulled in and parked at the Pierceton Fire Department/Town Clerk’s office. My curiosity was getting the best of me so I pulled in and started asking questions as to what was going on in Pierceton that had Mr. Rock in such a hurry. What was so important that Mr. Rock would drive a county owned truck over 70 mph in a posted 60 mph zone.
As it turned out there was no emergency at all. Mr. Rock was going to a meeting that started at 7 p.m. and didn’t want to be late. I guess in Mr. Rock’s world that is an emergency.
I would like to be the first one to thank Mr. Rock for his actions on Thursday night. Thank you, sir, for wasting taxpayer money for gas at speeds of more than 70 mph in your county truck. Thank you, sir, for putting myself and many other people in danger with your excessive speeds on public roadways. I will leave you with my phone number so you can explain to me why speed limits and safety only apply to other people. Are you somehow above the law?
