Five people were injured, including three juveniles, when a pickup truck collided with a Wawasee Community Schools bus Monday afternoon.
According to a news release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred on CR 500N, 500 feet east of CR 750E, in Tippecanoe Township.
At 3:11 p.m. Monday, KCSO deputies and emergency personnel responded to the two-vehicle head-on collision. Emergency personnel arrived on scene and located a Chevy pickup truck and a Wawasee Community School bus involved in the crash. Preliminary investigation determined the Chevy pickup was westbound on CR 500N and crossed the center line, hitting the eastbound bus, the release states.
The driver of the Chevy pickup truck, Steven Kingsley, 64, Huntertown, was airlifted from the scene and taken to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne for treatment of his injuries.
Sheryl Bartman, 63, Syracuse, was the driver of the bus and was treated at the scene by Tippecanoe Township EMS.
Three juvenile passengers on the bus were transported to local hospitals for treatment of minor injuries. Their names and ages were not identified in the news release.
Assisting at the scene was the North Webster Police Department, Tippecanoe Township Fire Department, Turkey Creek Township Fire Department, Lutheran Air EMS, Indiana State Police, Crouse Wrecker Service and Stuckman’s Towing.
The accident remains under investigation by KCSO deputies.
