4 Juniors Recognized At Tippecanoe Valley School Board Meeting

AKRON - Four high school juniors were recognized as Class of 2027 Rising Stars at the Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation board meeting on Monday, Feb. 16.
Brandon Kresca, principal of Tippecanoe Valley High School, awarded Bailey Anderson, Aaron Babbitt, Lillian Dunbar and Rigbey Wright with the Indiana Association of School Principals Rising Stars Class 2027 recognition. This award goes to students who are at the top of their class, are exemplary role models, involved in numerous extracurricular organizations, participate in community service and are student leaders at the high school.
Kyle Wieland, principal of Tippecanoe Valley Middle School, gave a presentation on the school to the board. Key points included:
• The band solo and ensemble were recognized for their recent Indiana State School Music Association competition. During this competition, every entry received a gold rating in their area.
• The FFA teams did well in their state competition. The novice parli team placed sixth in state. The junior forestry team placed fifth. The state livestock skillathon (junior team) came in seventh overall. In the State Soils Contest, they placed 11th overall.
• Physical education and health teachers April Jones and Kacie Zolman presented on the Good Sports Inc. grant program. This is a five-year contract to support materials for all sports and gym classes. To date, Good Sports has provided over $131,000. Through the program they have provided shoes, golf uniforms, swim caps, football pants and pads and other materials. The projected total over the course of the five years is $300,000 to $350,000. Zolman described this as “legacy level impact.”
In other business:
• There is a joint middle and high school art show tentatively scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 30.
• Rochester Grace Church donated $1,226.75 for the Viking Vittles program. An anonymous donor donated $40 to the Student Needs program.
The next TVSC School Board meeting will be Monday, March 16, at TVHS.
