3rd Annual Recovery Rocks Happening Sept. 18 At SweetwaterFORT WAYNE - Addiction can be extremely isolating, leaving the person battling substance use disorder and his/her family feeling completely alone, looking for answers.
Continued seclusion is not the answer, but connection and community are.
That’s why The Mom of an Addict Inc. is hosting Recovery Rocks Fort Wayne 2022 on Sunday, Sept. 18 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Sweetwater Performance Pavilion, 5501 U.S. 30W, Fort Wayne. This Recovery Month event is free, and everyone is encouraged to come out, see they are not alone and have a great afternoon, according to a news release from The Mom of an Addict.
“Fentanyl is ravaging our community with overdoses and drug-related deaths continuing to rise. As we move farther away from COVID and 2020, we are seeing more and more evidence that the current pandemic we are facing is the one of substance use and mental health,” said Jennifer Hope, founder and director of The Mom of an Addict Inc. “We must come together to remind people they are not alone, help is out there and fun can be had without substances.”
Approximately 60 resources for substance use, mental health and overall wellness will be onsite, and the list of tables can be found at https://www.themomofanaddict.org/recovery-rocks-2022-resources.
Speakers, including local advocates with lived experience and “Facing The Dragon: How A Desperate Act Pulled One Addict Out Of Methamphetamine Hell” author David Parnell, will take the stage to address words surrounding recovery like regroup, rewrite, remember, receive, reclaim, rejoice, rebuild, rethink and recognize. The two/eight band will provide live music throughout the afternoon, and RemedyLIVE will keep the crowd connected with interactive polling.
An activity tent will offer a games to keep the kiddos busy and vendors offering recovery-related merchandise. The day’s lineup also includes food trucks, silent auction/raffle items and free family bike rides with Three Rivers Velo Sports.
Recovery Rocks sponsors include Allendale Recovery, Avenues Recovery Center at Fort Wayne, Aware Recovery Care, Fort Wayne Recovery, LookUpIndiana.org, RemedyLIVE, Bowen Recovery Center, Cross Connections, Hope for Her, Indiana Recovery Network, Inspiration Ministries, Redemption House, Tara Treatment Center and Vorderman VW.
"While there is no one-size-fits-all solution for helping a family member who is drinking too much, using drugs, or dealing with a mental illness, research shows that family and community support can play a major role in helping a loved one with mental and substance use disorders. That is why it is so important to The Lutheran Foundation to support Recovery Rocks, to help build and strengthen our community," said Marcia Haaf, president and CEO of The Lutheran Foundation.
Alex Vorderman of Vorderman VW said, “It's such a prevalent topic in the world today a lot of families are trying to work through. We realize it has been a topic that generally gets brushed under the rug, but the only way to make things better is by having open discussions and not feeling ashamed when trying to recover and improve. We hope by helping support Recovery Rocks it will allow The Mom of An Addict to be able to spread the word farther than otherwise possible.”
