3-Vehicle Crash Claims The Life Of An Unborn Baby

A crash Saturday, Sept. 26 in Warsaw claimed the life of an unborn baby.
Warsaw Police Department responded at 12:11 p.m. Saturday to the crash at the intersection of East Old 30 and North CR 225E.
Shannon Zent, 39, Columbia City, driving a black Nissan Sentra, was at the stop sign on North CR 225, facing south. Zent stated she saw traffic was stopped in both directions and decided to enter the lane of travel on East Old 30. Zent stated she did not see the white Jeep Grand Cherokee approaching from the east. The Sentra entered the intersection and was hit by the Jeep. After the first collision, the Sentra continued travel and hit a red Ford F-150.
The Sentra sustained damage to the front driver’s side, front bumper and front passenger side, and was towed.
Zent complained of right wrist pain and was taken to Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital. Zent suffered a fractured wrist, according to the WPD crash report.
A passenger of the Sentra, a pregnant juvenile female, suffered multiple injuries to her face and abdomen and had severe bleeding. The female was flown to a Fort Wayne hospital where her unborn baby was pronounced dead.
Joanna Penrod, 80, of Bluffton, driving the white Jeep Grand Cherokee, was traveling west on East Old 30. Penrod stated she was approaching the intersection of North CR 225E when the Sentra pulled into the intersection. The Jeep hit the Sentra and sustained damage to the front driver’s side, front bumper and front passenger side.
Penrod complained of chest and knee pain and was taken by medics to LKH.
A passenger in the Jeep, Lois J. Slusarczyk, 73, of Manteno, Ill., complained of chest pain, back pain, right shoulder and arm pain, and had swelling in the chest. Slusarczyk was taken by medics to LKH.
Robert Stevens, 87, Warsaw, driving the red Ford F-150, was traveling east on East Old 30. Stevens stated he was stopped at the intersection with North CR 225E, attempting to make a left turn onto North CR 225E. Stevens stated he was waiting on the Jeep to clear the intersection before making the turn. Stevens stated the Sentra entered the intersection and was hit by the Jeep. After the collision of the Sentra and Jeep, the Sentra continued traveling and hit the F-150, which sustained damage to the front driver’s side bumper and wheel well.
The F-150 did not need towing, and Stevens and a passenger denied needing medical assistance.
Damage was estimated at $10,000 to $25,000.
