Three Warsaw residents were injured in a two-vehicle accident in Elkhart County Friday.
According to an Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office crash news release, a 1996 Toyota Land Cruiser, driven by Brian Swinehart, 50, Warsaw, was northbound on CR 7, south of Ind. 119. A 2016 GMC Sierra, driven by Carlos Delagarza, 36, Nappanee, was southwest bound on Ind. 119, north of CR 7. Swinehart attempted to stop the Land Cruiser at the stop sign of Ind. 119, but slid on the snow-covered road into the intersection and hit the Sierra head on at approximately 3:25 p.m. Friday, 1 mile east of the city limits of Wakarusa. The Sierra was forced off the north side of Ind. 119.
While Brian Swinehart and Delagarza did not report any injuries, Swinehart’s three passengers were taken to Elkhart General Hospital by ambulance for advance medical treatment. All three complained of head pain, including Caulin Swinehart, 14, Warsaw; Cannon Swinehart, 12, Warsaw; and Cara Swinehart, 11, Warsaw.
Everyone was wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident, the report states.
The Land Cruiser and Sierra both had front-end damage.
Brian Swinehart was cited for driving speeds too fast for conditions, the report states.
