3 Hurt In Sunday Night CrashPolice believe alcohol and speed were factors in a Sunday night crash that injured three, including a child.
At 11:50 p.m. Sunday, Kosciusko County Central Dispatch received a report of a crash on CR 600N near CR 625W in Prairie Township.
The caller told 911 that a male juvenile went to his home and said that his mother was injured in a collision. Emergency units responded to the scene and located Natasha Brunner, 30, Syracuse, and Codi Stout, 31, Mentone, in addition to a 9-year-old child.
Brunner was identified as the driver, according to Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. Chris Francis, and had to be extricated from the 2002 Toyota Tacoma. Stout was the front-seat passenger and was ejected from the truck during the collision.
Lutheran Air Ambulance and Parkview Samaritan Air Ambulance responded and took Brunner and Stout to Fort Wayne hospitals. Brunner suffered lower leg injuries in the crash, and Stouth complained of shoulder pain. The child was taken by ground ambulance to a Fort Wayne hospital, according to Francis, to be treated for neck pain.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Brunner was traveling west on CR 600N at an excessive rate of speed. For unknown reasons, Brunner lost control of the Tundra, left the north side of the road, struck a ditch and overturned.
Police believe alcohol is a factor, and the investigation is ongoing.
KCSO was assisted at the scene by Atwood Fire Department, who extricated Brunner, along with Lutheran EMS, Lutheran Air Ambulance and Parkview Samaritan Air Ambulance. Estimated damage is between $25,000-$50,000.
