2 Women Injured After Semi Rear-ends Truck On U.S. 31PERU – Two women were flown to a Fort Wayne hospital after a semi rear-ended their pickup truck on U.S. 31 Thursday morning.
According to a news release from Indiana State Police Public Information Officer Sgt. Tony Slocum, at 10:53 a.m. Thursday ISP troopers and Miami County Sheriff deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 31 at the intersection with Business U.S. 31.
The preliminary crash investigation revealed that Trina Fay Carlson, 26, of Stanwood, Mich., was driving a 2016 Freightliner semi, pulling a box trailer, south on U.S. 31 approaching a red stoplight at Business U.S. 31.
The semi did not stop and rear-ended a 2007 Ford F-150 pickup truck that was stopped for the red light.
The pickup was driven by Susan Konkle, 62, of rural Rochester, Slocum said. Renee Stouder, 61, of Bourbon, was a passenger in the Ford.
Both women were flown by medical helicopters to a Fort Wayne hospital, and their injuries are unknown. Carlson was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation; however, police do not suspect the consumption of alcoholic beverages nor narcotics contributed to the crash, Slocum said.
ISP was assisted at the crash by Miami County Sheriff’s Department, Lutheran Medical Helicopter, Samaritan Medical Helicopter and the Peru Fire Department.
