SYRACUSE - Two teenagers were injured Thursday after a vehicle hit a utility pole.
According to an Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office crash news release, the accident occurred at 11:43 a.m. Thursday at the U.S. 6 and CR 29 underpass, 1.5 miles north of the town limits of Syracuse.
A 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt - driven by a 18-year-old Jaimie Hummer, New Paris - was traveling west on U.S. 6 toward CR 29. The Cobalt went left of center, then overcorrected, going off the right side of the road. The Cobalt then hit a utility pole and continued into an embankment, causing heavy damage all over.
Hummer was taken to the hospital by ambulance for a possible broken leg.
A passenger of the vehicle - a 17-year-old female from Leesburg only identified as AC - was taken to the hospital by ambulance for neck pain.
The news release states both teens were wearing their seatbelts.
