MILFORD - Two people were killed late this morning near Milford in a two-vehicle crash.
According to a news release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, county officials are investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred on Ind. 15N, approximately a fourth of a mile north of Waubee Road in northern Kosciusko County in Van Buren Township.
KCSO deputies and emergency personnel responded at 11:31 a.m. today to the two-vehicle accident. Emergency personnel arrived on scene and found a Chevy Silverado, driven by Dale E. Wert, 68, Goshen, and a Hyundai Accent, driven by Sarah Mischke, 19, Milford, involved in a head-on collision. The cause of the accident is undetermined at this time, the news release states.
Wert was critically injured in the accident and ground transported by Lutheran EMS to Lutheran Fort Wayne. While at Lutheran Fort Wayne, Wert succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Mischke was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kosciusko County Coroner Tyler Huffer from injuries suffered in the accident.
KCSO was assisted by the Kosciusko County 911 Dispatch Center, Milford Police Department, Milford Fire Department, Plain Township Fire Department, Lutheran EMS, Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office and Raven’s Wecker Service.
The crash remains under investigation by the Kosciusko County FACT Team.
