Continuously serving Kosciusko County since 1854
Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident Wednesday night and police believe one of the drivers may have been driving under the influence.
Gabriela Hinojosa, 23, Warsaw, was northbound on Packerton Road in her 2013 Nissan Ultima when she stopped at a stop sign at the intersection with Ind. 14, she told a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department officer.
Not seeing any oncoming vehicles, she crossed Ind. 14 but the passenger side of her vehicle was hit by a 2011 Chevy Suburban driven by Jesse Thompson, 67, Akron.
Thompson said he was westbound on Ind. 14, and as he came to Packerton Road, the Ultima pulled out in front of him and he had no time to stop before his vehicle hit hers.
The KCSD report said it appears Thompson was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash and he was given a breathalyzer test.
Information on the case was forwarded to the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office.
Thompson and Hinojosa both complained of pain to the chest. Thompson was taken to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Damage was estimated at $50,000 to $100,000.
