15th Annual Rotors Over Mentone Is Saturday

MENTONE - The Lawrence D. Bell Aircraft Museum and Mentone Historical Museum will hold their 15th annual Rotors Over Mentone on Saturday, Sept. 14.
The event is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the museum, 210 S. Oak St., Mentone. Both museums will be open for viewing.
American Huey 369 will be giving honor rides and Cleveland Helicopter Service will be offering rides, too. Food and Igloo ice cream will be available.
The speaker at the program will be Brad Stockwell of Arizona. He grew up in Shelton, Wash. He enlisted in the U.S. Army to attend flight school. He flew helicopters in Vietnam in the first Calvary Division and was awarded the Army Commendation medal, the Bronze Star and 32 air medals. He was discharged from the Army and was a policeman for five years in Aberdeen, Wash., and then went full time flying helicopters and continued to fly them for 46 years.
Stockwell worked in Alaska, the Gulf of Mexico, Africa and retired from the Saudi Arabian Oil Co. in 2006 and then flew medical helicopters in Phoenix until his real retirement in 2016.
He has two daughters and three grandchildren. He and his daughter Sarah have a nonprofit boxing gym for Parkinson’s patients. He is a full-time caregiver for his wife, who has Parkinson’s disease.
Stockwell will share his experience in flight school, travels around the world, Vietnam and a memorable Christmas in Long Binh.
