Thursday night’s match between Warsaw and Northridge meant a little bit more to the Tigers than a usual match. A win for Warsaw would clinch a Northern Lakes Conference title. After 80 minutes of play, the score line read 4-2 in favor of the Tigers. After an uncharacteristically down year in 2020, Warsaw is back at the top of the conference.

Varsity football programs all over Indiana have turned on a dime to be sure they maintain a nine-game regular season schedule. Affected area teams include Manchester, Triton, and Tippecanoe Valley. They’ve been affected by schedule adjustments due to COVID, and COVID contact tracing for the most part.

The Warsaw girls’ soccer side clinched a share of the Northern Lakes Conference title in their final regular season match at the Tiger Soccer Complex. The 2-1 victory over the Northridge Raiders earned the home side a share of the present season’s NLC title with the Goshen RedHawks, whose girls’ soccer team was in attendance Thursday night cheering for either a Warsaw loss, or a Tiger tie.

After a teeter-totter first four sets between the two premier volleyball teams in the Northern Lakes Conference, Warsaw ran into an abrupt shortage of scoring during the decisive fifth set Thursday night at NorthWood. There was, however, no shortage of talking points afterwards — at least eventually.

Lakeview Athletes Of The Month

Knowing that he wanted to apply for a head coach position at his alma mater, Joe Salazar changed his day job. A few months ago, Salazar became project manager at Grand Design RV in Middlebury — a position which requires less hours than his previous place of employment — and was hired to run the baseball program at Wawasee High School where he graduated in 1994.

To his opponents on the course or track, Dimitri Margaritidis is known both as a quality competitor and as the guy whose name is tough to pronounce. To teammates, he's known as a hard worker and a quiet, but effective leader. His coaches know him as a dependable student-athlete who harbors a deep desire to succeed.

Grace Unveils 2021 Inductees For Lancer Hall Of Fame, Wyman To Coach Grace Bowling

Next week, longtime Grace men’s basketball head coach Jim Kessler will be recognized by the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.

I was watching Notre Dame pull away from Wisconsin Saturday at Soldier Field, and a strange thought came into my head.

Anecdotally anyway, Triton proved the far less skittish team in its high school volleyball matchup with Mishawaka.

One of my earliest memories is still one of my favorites. It was an October night in 2005, I was only in the second grade. I had been playing baseball for a few years at this point, and my love for the game was reaching obsession status. Luckily for me, the team on the south side of Chicago was crushing everything in its path, fighting for the team’s first title in 88 years.

Lancers Fall In League Opener; Taylor Tops Lady Lancers

With the hot start Tippecanoe Valley has had to start this season, the team went into last night’s game with Whitko as the heavy favorites. Valley certainly acted like it.

Warsaw put up a goose egg on defense and cashed in on its offensive chances in a 42-0 Northern Lakes Conference football victory Friday, Sept. 24 at Goshen’s Foreman Field.

The Manchester Squires football squad enjoyed a memorable night of football with a 33-22 THree Rivers Conference win over host Southwood; their first over the Knights since 2012. Southwood’s Homecoming night was spoiled by a physical Manchester team who controlled the line of scrimmage from both sides of the ball.

Competing early Friday morning at the IHSAA golf regional at Noble Hawk golf course, neither Warsaw nor Tippecanoe Valley individual Madelyn Weaver were able to advance to the state championship.

There’s a Looney Tunes cartoon episode placing Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny in a battle to dodge the wrath of cantankerous millionaire hunter Elmer Fudd as each protagonist volleys proclamations of “wabbit” season and duck season to avoid what seems to be their imminent demise.

The Lady Lancers defeated Spring Arbor 3-1 in front of an energetic crowd at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center.

When a high school soccer team is down 9-0 by halftime, the search for silver linings may feel more like a hunt for slivered linings.
