Still boasting a perfect record after defeating Valparaiso on the road last Saturday, the Warsaw girls basketball team returned to the Tiger Den on Tuesday night for a meeting with South Bend Riley. The game belonged to the Lady Tigers from the jump, as the team cruised to its fifth straight win to start the season with a 67-10 victory.
Monday was a special day for Manchester senior athlete Hadley West, as she officially signed her letter of intent to continue her softball career next year at Providence College in Rhode Island.
There are no more area football teams in action, and the other fall high school sports seasons have also come to an end. This probably would have been a great weekend for a long-form feature to gobble up copy space in the real estate afforded us in local print media, but there was actually something worth discussing from earlier this week on the area’s NAIA-affiliated campus, Grace College.
With both teams fresh off an appearance in the semi-state last year, it’s no surprise that Friday night’s meeting between the Whitko and Columbia City girls basketball teams was played in front of a full house. Those in attendance were treated to a fantastic game, as both teams held leads, the game stayed within single digits the entire time and a plethora of highlight plays were made. In the end, it was the Lady Eagles who used a dominant fourth quarter to come back and come away with a 51-48 win.
It was another day of celebration for Warsaw Community High School athletics, as two more athletes signed their letters of intent to continue their careers at the next level.
For the first time in program history, Grace’s women’s soccer team can call itself the Crossroads League Tournament champions.
There is a topic of discussion, rather a person of interest, that I have tried to avoid talking about up to this point this season.
Grace College’s women’s basketball set nearly every record imaginable in a 172-91 win over Ohio Christian on Tuesday night.
When a team isn’t doing well, the first person to feel the strain of that is the head coach.
Returning to Fort Wayne for the second time in seven days, the Warsaw girls basketball team set their sights on Northrop as they tried to pick up their third win in as many tries to start the season. While the Lady Tigers did pick up the victory, it wasn’t always as pretty as the 67-44 final score might indicate.
After opening the season with a win on Tuesday night, the Warsaw girls basketball team returned to the Tiger Den on Saturday night to play its home opener. It was a great night for the program, as players from last year’s team received their state runner-up rings and saw a new banner be unveiled in the Tiger Den.
Grace College’s women’s basketball team capped off the Val Weinstein Classic with a 112-78 win over Lawrence Tech.
You’ve heard “this must be the place” in movie scenes, and a 1983 talking Heads album has a very upbeat tune on it named, This Must Be The Place (Naïve Melody), as well.
After opening the season on the wrong end of a blowout against defending state champions Norwell, the Tippecanoe Valley girls basketball team returned to Akron on Thursday night to try and get back on track in the team’s home opener. They were able to do so and then some, ending up on the other side of a lopsided contest in a 59-6 win over Northwestern.
It’s been a while since I delved into the NFL for what I want to cover in my introduction, but this week’s topic has been bugging me for a few weeks now. With a fantastic World Series behind us and the College Football Playoff still a month away, now feels like the right time to discuss the league that I pick five games from each week.
High school basketball returned to Kosciusko County on Wednesday night, as two area teams, Manchester and Wawasee, began their seasons against each other. After a close first quarter, it was the Lady Squires that found the separation they were looking for later on. With defense leading the way, Manchester started the campaign with a 54-24 home victory.
Grace College’s women’s basketball team collected its first win of the season with a 98-88 victory over Holy Cross on Tuesday night.
It’s time to have a chat about Wawasee Athletics.
The IHSAA 2025 State Cross Country Championships were held this past Saturday at the Lavern Gibson Championship XC course in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Grace’s men’s basketball team continued its high-scoring start to the year with a 98-56 win over Briar Cliff on Saturday.
Recent takes on the gambling scandal resulting in arrests for NBA players and coaches, Terry Rozier and Chauncy Billups to name a few, vary to no surprise (for me) in line with people’s personal biases and moral/ethical foundations.
Last season’s sectional championship game between Warsaw and Concord was one for the ages. This year’s regular season meeting, not so much. On Friday night, these two teams met for the third time in 365 days and treated fans to an excellent game. Momentum swung like a pendulum, the lead changed three times, and the end result was the Minutemen avenging last year’s postseason defeat with a 45-28 win that was a whole lot closer than the final score would indicate.
The Grace women’s basketball team traveled to Valparaiso to take on the Beacons in an early season exhibition.
I’ve long said that right behind Christmas, Halloween is my favorite holiday.
Warsaw (6-3) vs. Concord (8-1), Manchester (7-3) at Eastside (8-2), Triton (7-3) at Fremont (7-3)
