The Manchester Squires football team were set to face off against their county rival, Wabash, on Friday night at Alumni Field. The school unveiled through social media the new artificial turf being installed and video board a few days ago. However, it was not quite ready for a christening, so the venue was switched to Manchester Jr.-Sr. High School. The Apaches made themselves feel right at home.
Hopes are high for Grace College’s women’s soccer team this fall after an impressive season in 2019. The Lady Lancers ended last season as the No. 14-ranked team in the NAIA. Grace posted a 16-5-2 record and won two matches in the NAIA National Championships. While Grace has aspirations of hoisting a national championship banner, the Lady Lancers are also preparing for what could be the longest season in team history.
The anticipation is high as Grace College’s men’s and women’s golf teams are readying for their first tournaments of 2020-21. The programs reached new heights last year, but the spring seasons were sadly wiped out due to COVID-19.
Triton and Whitko earned conference road wins in football games Friday night. Triton edged Caston 14-12 in Fulton in Hoosier North Athletic Conference play. Whitko won 28-7 at Rochester in a Three Rivers Conference game. No statistics were available for either game as of press time.

The ball didn’t bounce their way in terms of a championship, but Manchester High School’s varsity boys and girls soccer teams certainly bounced back Saturday afternoon. Hosting the annual Manchester Invite, the Lady Squires and Squires lost their opening-round games to top notch teams but came back with wins in the consolation round behind strong second-half performances.
One season ago, Grace’s men’s soccer team was one win short of hoisting a national championship trophy. After losing in the title game of the NCCAA National Championships, the Lancers are hungry to take the next step as a program in 2020. Head coach Arron Patrick, now in his second year at the helm of the Lancers, has guided the team through a myriad of obstacles just to reach this season.

Warsaw Tiger senior quarterback Aaron Green tossed a 34-yard touchdown pass to Patrick Zollinger erasing visiting Michigan City’s 14-0 lead with 4:25 left in the first half. The fans at Fisher Field were energized by the comeback. However, the visiting Silver Wolves silenced the crowd sixteen seconds later with a 64-yard touchdown run by Kaydarious Jones; a jet sweep to regain a lead it would never relinquish. Warsaw experienced its first loss of the season 41-21 Friday night.
In a game where the team’s offense scored 31 points, it was the defense that shone brightest as the Wawasee football team defeated West Noble 31-0 Friday night in a non-conference game.
After a resounding 47-12 win over North Miami last Friday, the Manchester Squires wanted to carry that energy over into last night’s game against the Bluffton Tigers. Bluffton senior quarterback Hayden Nern had other plans.
The Grace College volleyball team is primed for a strong year under sixth-year head coach Katie Van Hofwegen. The Lady Lancers have consistently grown their program’s reputation in a challenging conference under Van Hofwegen, despite the Crossroads League getting seemingly harder each year. In 2019 the league had two teams in the NAIA national quarterfinals, including the eventual national champion.

NORTH MANCHESTER – Manchester University Athletics has announced a change within its softball program. Associate Head Softball Coach Sara Emerich will take over as the head softball coach of the Spartans. Former head coach Josh Dzurick will remain active in the program, serving as its assistant coach. Coach Dzurick also serves as the associate director of athletics for compliance and the head women's basketball coach at MU.

Grace College’s athletic department announced its policy for spectator attendance for the upcoming fall 2020 season. The decisions by Grace College were made primarily for the safety and well-being of all attendees, including student-athletes, officials, staff and spectators.
After continued analysis and deliberation, the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Council of Presidents has voted unanimously to postpone all conference related contests and competitions, including HCAC Championships slated for fall 2020.
