Heading into Tuesday night’s game having already eclipsed last season’s win total, the Manchester girls basketball team looked to defend its home court against Three Rivers Conference foe Peru. The game was mostly controlled by the Lady Tigers as the Lady Squires’ conference woes continued in a 52-44 loss.

Grace’s men’s basketball team passed one of its toughest tests to date, downing No. 10 Indiana Wesleyan on the road on Saturday.

The team’s last appearance coming 10 days ago, the Warsaw boys basketball team’s first game of 2026 was a big one, as the team traveled to Jayco Arena to take on rival Northridge. The Tigers started slowly on offense and were never able to fully rebound in what was a wire-to-wire 48-30 win for the Raiders.

A lot has happened since the last time I sat down to write one of these. The Bears beat the Packers in one of the craziest games I’ve ever watched and then clinched a playoff spot a day later. The College Football Playoff got underway, leading to a few stinkers, a couple good games and the absence of any blue bloods in the final four. Meanwhile, during all of this, Notre Dame fans still haven’t stopped crying! Remarkable stuff.

Winners of eleven straight after an early season loss, the Whitko girls basketball team headed into Wednesday night’s game against Wabash playing extremely well. Playing in front of a home crowd, The Lady ‘Cats turned it up a notch in this one, setting a new season high in points in a dominant 87-25 win to keep the team on top of the Three Rivers Conference.

In my almost 35 years of broadcasting games in Warsaw, I have had a lot of opportunities to do a lot of fun and cool things.

Showing improvement as the season has moved along, the Tippecanoe Valley boys basketball team looked to pick up another win on Tuesday night with Plymouth visiting Rita Price-Simpson Court. The game was hard-fought and close for all 32 minutes, and the end result was the Vikings picking up a momentum-building 56-54 win.

For just over 20 years, the 1,607 points scored by 2004 Miss Basketball Jaclyn Leininger stood as the mountain top for the Warsaw girls basketball program. It wasn’t until last Friday night that a new Lady Tiger great etched her name into the record books and took her place on top of the leaderboard.

After winning the first two games of the Lady Tiger Tournament by a combined 126 points, the Warsaw girls basketball team set its sights on a rematch with Columbia City in Saturday’s championship game. That contest was not much closer, as the Lady Tigers won their home tournament for the second straight season with an 80-36 win.

Happy New Year! I’m hoping for a constructively boring 2026… in life, not in sports.

Starting to build some momentum with three wins in the last six games, the Manchester boys basketball team returned to action for the first time in 2026 looking to pick up its first Three Rivers Conference victory of the season against Northwestern. The team battled valiantly at home on Friday night, but came up empty in a 62-39 loss to the Tigers.

As we put 2025 to bed and say “hello” to a new year, it’s time to consider what 2026 could bring for the universe of sports.

Starting to gain some momentum after a slow start to the season, the Warsaw boys basketball team took to Knightstown, home of the Hickory Huskers, on Tuesday to take on Providence in the first game of a doubleheader at the famous Hoosier Gym. While the team didn’t get the start it wanted, it battled for all 32 minutes, and led by a 30-point gem from Mydin Burgher, it was enough for a 56-45 win.

The big games keep on coming for the Warsaw girls basketball team, as the ladies followed up winning the Hall of Fame Classic at New Castle last Monday by playing in the headlining game of a doubleheader at the Hoosier Gym on Tuesday night. Facing off against a talented Fairfield team, the Lady Tigers were forced to dig deep, eventually outlasting their opponent with a 76-58 victory.

My vocation (almost 41 years and counting altogether) sometimes involves the following paraphrased dialogue. “Chip, I see one of your sites’ operating costs are higher than usual,” they’ll ask. “So have you addressed concerns about this?”

Headed into the team’s final game before Christmas, the Warsaw boys basketball squad looked to find some answers for the offensive woes that had plagued the group so far this season. Facing off against Merrillville at the Tiger Den, the Tigers were able to get off to a fast start and never looked back, going wire-to-wire for a 72-41 victory.

The prestigious Hall of Fame Classic at the world-famous New Castle Fieldhouse was nothing more than a business trip for the Warsaw girls basketball team.

Participating in the prestigious Hall of Fame Classic at New Castle Fieldhouse on Monday morning, the Warsaw girls basketball team took full advantage of the big stage. Defeating Evansville Central …

I spent the early part of the week doing a lot of bellyaching at work and at home, more than usual in fact. Suddenly, while listening to one of Colin Cowherd’s The Herd segments available on Spotify, he remarked about avoiding toxic people as much as he can.

The rivalry between the Warsaw and Wawasee boys basketball programs often has the distinction of beginning Northern Lakes Conference play for both sides. Friday night’s matchup at the Tiger Den was no different. In what was a low-scoring contest that was downright ugly at times, it was the Warriors leaving town with a statement 42-33 victory.

Entering Thursday night on a six-game winning streak, the Whitko girls basketball team welcomed one of its biggest tests of the season to South Whitley in the form of East Noble. Shaking off a sloppy start, the Lady ‘Cats were able to come alive in the second half and pick up an awfully impressive 57-42 win for the team’s seventh in a row.

With Christmas falling a week from today and New Years Day the week after that, this will be my final column of 2025. I will return for the NFL playoffs with a column on January 8. With this being my final piece before the holidays and new year, I figured I’d try to combine the two and have some fun this week.

Man, this Colts season sure took a turn for the worse, didn’t it?

Having won three of their last four games by 60 points or more, the Warsaw girls basketball team had not been tested in the month of December. With rival Columbia City coming to town on Tuesday night, the Lady Tigers looked to finally get one. Despite the game being blown open in the fourth quarter, the contest was much closer than the final result, a 70-46 Warsaw win, would indicate.
