NORTH MANCHESTER — Jacob A. Chapman, 36, North Manchester, went to be with Jesus at 8:04 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2017, at his home.

NORTH MANCHESTER — Dr. Roger William Sawyer, 95, passed away at 9:30 p.m. May 22, 2017, at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester.  Roger was born Aug. 27, 1921, to Raymond Earl and Goldie Carney Hoover Sawyer, who are deceased. On June 1, 1947, he married Hulda Bidlack, who died Feb. 17, 1992. He married Dorothy Roush in February 1993; she preceded him in death Oct. 31, 2009. He is survived by his son, Dr. Douglas (Peggy) Sawyer, Warsaw; his grandchildren, Amanda (Dave) Bailey, Warsaw; Aaron (Marcia) Sawyer, Austin, Texas; and Andrew (Rachel) Sawyer, San Francisco, Calif.; his beloved great-grandsons, Keller and Finley Bailey, Warsaw; and stepdaughters Cindy Swain, Carmel; Nancy (Dale) Geiselman, Zionsville; and Ellen (Troy) Rector, Carmel.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert; and his sister, Marjorie Chalfant. Roger graduated from Bluffton High School in 1939. He attended International Business College after serving in World War II in the Army in Burma from 1942-1945. He then went on to attend the Northern Illinois College of Optometry and graduated in 1949. He opened his optometry practice in 1949 in North Manchester, where he practiced for 37 years. He was a member of Kiwanis Club, past member of Tippy Golf Club, Stonehenge Golf Club and a charter member of Sycamore Golf Course. He was a Shriner and also a member of North Manchester United Methodist Church. His passion was golf, and he scored four holes-in-one in his lifetime – the last coming at age 87. He wintered in the Naples, Fla., area for 35 years. He was a member of Quail Run Golf Course there. He loved bird watching, and he loved to whistle, sing and dance. LIGONIER — Dixie Diane Dean, 61, Syracuse, passed away at home unexpectedly, following an extended illness, on Monday, May 22, 2017.  She was born Aug. 6, 1955, in Goshen, the daughter of Donald and Darlene DeVault Disher. On Nov. 21, 1988, she married Mark Dean.  Survivors include her husband of nearly 30 years, Mark Dean, Syracuse; two sons, Richie (Tina) Doerscher, Goshen, and Charles (Jodi) Briggs, Topeka; three grandchildren: Chloe, Maizie and Isabelle; a stepdaughter, Sissy Dean, Indianapolis; numerous stepgrandchildren; one uncle, the Rev. Jack DeVault, Ligonier; and several cousins and friends. 

MENTONE — Georgianna Grubbs, 91, Beaver Dam Lake, Claypool, passed at 12:10 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw. Arrangements are pending at King Memorial Home, Mentone.  

Larry A. Clark, 75, Warsaw, passed away at 6:15 p.m. Saturday May 20, 2017, at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.  He was born Feb. 13, 1942, to Donald J. and Dorothy Hatfield Clark in Warsaw. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War.  He married Ruby Jo Garber Dawson on March 3, 2007, in Warsaw.

Amos Edward England, Pierceton, passed away at his residence surrounded by family at 2:09 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at the age of 80.   He was born Feb. 11, 1937, in Prestonsburg, Ky. He was the seventh out of eight children born to Nancy Reffitt and Charlie England. On May 16, 1959, he married Phyllis Kay Ross, his loving and caring wife of 58 years, who survives in Pierceton.  Amos was a 1955 graduate of Warsaw High School. He was a hard worker and for 17 years he worked for Fiber Fill in Warsaw, and when the company moved to Evansville, he continued to work there as a shipping supervisor. He worked for Jomac Products in Warsaw for 27 years, working in the warehouse as a shipping clerk and driving semi. 

William L. "Bill" O'Hara, 90, rural Claypool, died at 5:48 p.m. Monday, May 22, 2017, at his home.   He was born Sept. 16, 1926, in Laketon, to Clyde O'Hara and Grace Flora Haupert Bill was a 1946 graduate of Chester High School, North Manchester, and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II. He married Kathryn E. "Kate" Renicker in Warsaw on May 1, 1948; she died Nov. 2, 2013.

NAPPANEE — Isaac J. Borkholder, 89, Nappanee, died from injuries received in a fall at 4:49 p.m. May 22, 2017, at Elkhart General Hospital emergency room.   He was born Feb. 20, 1928, in Nappanee, to John R. and Fannie I. Yoder Borkholder. On Nov. 10, 1955, he married Dorothy Yoder, who survives. Family and friends may call after 2 p.m. today and all day Thursday at the family residence.   Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the family residence, with the home ministry of the Old Order Amish Church officiating. Burial will be in Weldy Cemetery.

Lonnie Prater, 68, Pierceton, passed away at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, May 21, 2017, in his residence.

Linda Lou Holterman, Winona Lake, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, May 21, 2017, at her residence at the age of 69.

Dean Smith, 85, Rochester, passed away at 2:14 p.m. May 19, 2017, at his residence.

Elsie M. Free, 95, Milford, passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2017, at Lakeland Rehabilitation, Milford.

Gale C. Decker, 87, Claypool, passed away at 1:15 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2017, in Mason Health and Rehabilitation Center, Warsaw.

Amos Edward England, 80, Pierceton, passed away at 2:09 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2017. 

MENTONE – The Mentone Egg Festival Bingo will be June 3 at the Bell Aircraft Museum, 210 S. Oak St. Doors open at 12:30 p.m., with purchase of packets at 1 p.m. Early birds are 1:30 p.m., with regular bingo at 2 p.m. Cost is $15 per person, and there is a 50/50 raffle.  Jackpot is guaranteed at $250.  There is limited seating, and first-come, first serve.

Phillip Wayne “Phil” Neff, 77, passed away at 6:50 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2017,  in Miller's Merry Manor, Warsaw. On Oct 23, 1939, in Warsaw, Phil was born to Marvin Edward and Lucy Louise Liggett Neff. He was a 1957 graduate of Claypool High School. Phil enlisted in the United States Navy March 24, 1958. FTG2 Phillip Wayne Neff was honorably discharged Jan 5, 1963. Upon his return from the service and on April 14, 1963, in Silver Lake, he took Erma L. Salyer as his bride.

Larry A. Clark, 75, Warsaw, passed away at 6:15 p.m.  Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw. Arrangements are pending at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw.

Helen B. McCreery, 94, Warsaw, and formerly of Portland, died May 18, 2017, in Lake City Place, Warsaw.

Phillip Wayne Neff, 77, of Warsaw, died May 19, 2017, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw.

Dean Smith, 85, Rochester, died at 2:14 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2017, at his residence.

Patty L. Nash, 83, of Warsaw, passed away at 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2017, in Grace Village Healthcare Center, Winona Lake.

Carol Kelly Wessels, 72, Naples, Fla., and North Webster, passed away peacefully at home May 15, 2017, following a long illness. She was born Oct. 10, 1944.

Laura Hill, 86, North Webster, passed away at 2:50 p.m. May 18, 2017, in her residence.

FORT WAYNE — Meredith D. Wamsley, 98, three weeks short of reaching his 99th birthday, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in 1918 in Huntington. He was the only child of Lloyd L. and May P. Wamsley.  He served in World War II as a motor pool mechanic. He graduated from Purdue University with a degree in electrical engineering. He spent his career in Evansville and Fort Wayne at Magnavox and Phillips Co.
